After a 4 year silence, renowned Lilongwe based guitarist Neil Nayar has finally released the long awaited song titled “Almost Revolution”.
“Almost Revolution” is a song which emphasizes on the need to learn from the past and know how to move forward.
Nayar says, “I wrote the song for my dad who was struggling with alcohol at the time. It was soon after my parents’ divorce.
“But, today in the world with Coronavirus taking over, I felt I should finally record and release the song, as it also speaks about what is happening in the world today. Even in Malawi.
“The point is that the world is always changing although change is never easy. We all know that. We should learn from the past and know how to move forward.”
In the song, Nayar sings,
“Times are changing
That’s nothing new
History’s for learning
What we got to do.
“But still we sing our
Same old song
Never learning from
Where it all went wrong.”
Nayar’s last solo track was recorded and released in 2016.
He has since revealed plans of releasing a new song every month this year on Spotify and other platforms.
Nayar was once a volunteer at Music Crossroads Malawi where his dream of nurturing grassroot talents came true before opening Grittah’s Camp arts venue in Chilinde.
He now manages the Mtandire based acoustic duo, Madalitso Band.
In 2017, he managed to get Madalitso Band perform at a major festival in Zanzibar. In 2018/2019, the band went on a Europe tour and performed on BBC’s Focus on Africa.
