Rita Marley, widow of Bob Marley and vocalist for the Wailers will be travelling to Malawi on Saturday to receive a distinction.
“We are pleased that Rita Marley will be in Malawi this Saturday,” said Alvin Singh of African Communications Agency (ACA), which will host the 7th annual Africa’s International Media Summit (AIMS) (17-18 November) at the international conference center in Lilongwe.Singh said that the Jamaican star will be honored on Sunday at the same time as the president of Malawi, Joyce Banda.”The two winners were chosen by an international panel to magnify the way they represented the African Diaspora,” he said.
Other recipients of the award include former U.S. singer Stevie Wonder, his fellow countryman, boxer Muhammed Ali and Brazilian soccer legend, Pele
According to a statement released Thursday by the ACA in Accra, Ghana, the theme of the summit is “I Am African” in harmony with the new campaign of the African Union (AU) to encourage participation in the global initiative.
