The chance introduction over the purchase of a bicycle in 2008 led Johan Hugo to invite Esau Mwamwaya into his studio to collaborate on the mixtape that would launch their career.
Containing an infectious cross-pollination of samples and rhythms anchored by Esau’s soaring vocals, the mixtape quickly went viral (with approx. 1 000,000 downloads to date).
Pitchfork offered them a slot at their festival for their U.S. debut, and worldwide tour dates for their infamous live shows followed.
In the beginning of 2014 The Very Best signed their 3rd record deal with Moshi Moshi records in London. During a trip to Lilongwe in 2013 to play City Of Stars (the 5th time TVB played Lake Of Stars) they started to record for their third album. They just finished a 3 week trip on lake Malawi (close to Mangochi) where they recorded an additional 10 songs. Only one more trip to Malawi in May will be needed to finish their highly anticipated 3rd album.
