Tay Grin who is also DSTV Malawi Ambassador, celebrated in style after picking up a BEFFTA Award in London in October.
Grin, real name Limbani Kalilani, scooped the Best International African Act for his new song The Beach at the Black Entertainment Film Fashion Television and Arts (BEFFTA) Award at Hippodrome in London.
In Best International Act category, he was up against continental music giants P-Square, Davido, Timaya, Zahara, Awilo Longomba, Dr Sid, Olamide, Sautisol and R2bees.
To mark the achievement, Tay Grin in collaboration with DSTV Malawi, organized a mash up fun night at Club Amazon (formerly known as Zanzi) in Lilongwe.
The show started on a high note with an applauding performance from rapper Martse who took the stage and dropped an amazing performance. He performed Mwapindulanji, and was later joined by Krazie-G who helped with vocals on Grace Chi and Pini Ya Blackberry, he closed his act with Go Deeper which left fans shouting and screaming with enjoyment as he gave them their money’s worth.
Trevor Trix then took the stage with the vocal backing of Krazie-G and Martse on the track Get Wild, which is one of the rapper hit songs, and yes people got wild indeed.
With DJ Kenoree and DJ Smallton on the ones and twos, the man of the moment, the Nyau King jumped on stage and delivered an energetic set that included performances of the award winning track “The Beach” which was followed by ‘Our way (Chinafuna M’bale)’. He belted out his vocals to “Nyau Music,” while fans sang along, and the moment had fans delighted. Grin gave the set his all and his performance was magnificent, making it fitting for the award won.
‘Is this what happens when Tay Grin is in the house?’ “Because, I’ve gotta tell you … I wanna be here every Saturday night if this goes on.” acclaimed one party-goer visiting from Zambia.
Despite a slight delay in the commencement of the performances, the turn up was overwhelming, Grin as the DSTV Malawi Ambassador, distributed various prizes which included t-shirts and players. It was a fun night filled with laughter, love and good music.
When he finished, Tay Grin thanked the audience and encouraged them to keep up the support, he also thanked everybody who voted for him at the BEFFTA awards.
‘I just want to thank all my fans. The award is dedicated to you all. This one’s for you all, man, I appreciate everything that Malawians and everybody out there has done for me. Together we made, we made history. Let’s keep up the support and through that, together, we will put Malawi on the map. Once more, thank you all!’ said Grin during an interview after the show.
