Following his recent picture in which he was seen with huge sum of money in a plastic bag at a local pub, one of the country’s musicians Joe Gwaladi has been arrested for spoiling, splashing and damaging the Malawian kwacha, according to reports reaching this publication.
It is said the Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM) complained to police against the action that the musician showed in the video and also the pictures that circulated online.
A few days ago, the singer was spotted in Phalombe at a local pub at Migowi Trading Centre exhibiting a huge sum of 2000 kwacha bank notes in a transparent plastic bag.
Phalombe police spokesperson, constable Innocent Moses says the singer has been arrested over the charges of willfully defaces, soils or damaging Malawian currency which is contrary to section 54(2) subsection of Reserve Bank of Malawi.
Meanwhile, the 29-year-old Gwaladi has been released on bail waiting to appear in court.
He hails from Magareta village in the area of traditional authority Nkanda in Mulanje.
