Chileka-based reggae group Black Missionaries have a lot to prove to the fans in the country that as crowd pullers, they still have the expertise to produce good albums worth appreciating and continue moving in the right path that their mentor late Evison Matafale travelled.

The group’s lead vocalist Anjiru Fumulani announced during performance at Premier Lodge in Blantyre on Valentine’s Day that they were ready with Kuimba 9 album and that people will now sample the songs starting this week.

During their concert at Premier Lodge, where fans braved the rains and the group performed for close to three hours and dished out one of the latest songs, ‘I am Not a Failure’, Anjiru said that after keeping the fans waiting for such a long time, they are now ready with four singles.

“We said we were waiting for our brother Anthony Makondetsa to release his new album and also give it time to play. So, now is the best time for us to go full throttle and have the four singles before looking at the launch. We have taken our time and we are sure the songs will receive positive feedback,” said Anjiru.

During the concert at Premier Lodge, the group’s live performance was perfect and the sound was better and this was strengthened with the fact that they were using Entertainers Promotions’ new equipment.

According to Anjiru, the songs will be distributed to radio stations today. The four singles that will be put on air are ‘Bwenzi Langa’, ‘Akungochimwirabe’, ‘I am Not a Failure’, and ‘Okondedwa’.

Anjiru said the 11-track Kuyimba 9, recorded at Ralph Records, will be launched in April.

Asked why they were releasing their songs now just as Balaka-based musician Lucius Banda, the soft spoken lead vocalist said:

“We are not clashing as such but I guess it’s just a coincidence. Again it is nice because fans will have a lot of songs to enjoy.”

Meanwhile Anthony ‘Mr Cool’ Makondetsa, whose new songs are currently enjoying airplay and have received an overwhelming response, will launch his album Fuko Lokondedwa on March 3.
